Day 10 of 31 Tubular Terrifying Tapes!
Today's pick for 31 Tubular Terrifying Tapes is Witchboard (1986) = You have no idea how many times the auto correct wanted me to write switchboard instead. This movie is one of my all time favorites and directed by Kevin Tenney (Night Of the Demons) His freshmen effort used a very common object and in my eyes is one of the best made. Almost everyone has either seen or used a Ouija board (I myself have never touched one mainly because of this movie...no joking) this is the one that started it all, and was clever enough (due to copyright issues) named it Witchboard instead. Filmed at one of my favorite movie locations (the same house used in Waxwork, an episode of Tales From The Crypt, and Willard.) It tells the story of a young couple who host a party where one of the guests who happens to be the man's ex-best friend, and the woman's ex-boyfriend brings along his Ouija Board as a party trick. Well, the woman believes she contacts the spirit of a young boy and soon becomes obsessed with using it alone....meaning it's opening a gateway for a very vengeful spirit. Here the woman's boyfriend and ex-lover must team up to figure out how to stop this evil before it completely takes over.
This movie not only has a wonderful score, it has a huge very attractive cast, laughable and very memorable moments, and a really cool sleek take on using the Ouija Board. With the heartbreaking lake scene, the surreal dream like nightmares, the epic Bump In The Night theme song, and the greatest slow motion fall of all time, this is a must to watch around this time of year!
Just a little psychic humor!
