Staystillreview's new mascot!!!

 Staystillreview's new mascot!!!

Thanks to artist Travis Falligant our very own Staystillreviews has it's own mascot and guess what guys. He's here to stay! I was inspired by the awesome account of uncletnuc who runs not only a very cool website, but Instagram where he covers everything that was totally awesome about the 1980's. Here his site's mascot is the late actor Brooke McCarter from his iconic role from The Lost Boys. Here, he's had several artist sketch Brooke, and basically sums up the feel of his site/posts. Wanting to join the bandwagon for mascots, I thought long and hard on who exactly could capture what Staystillreviews is (now running for it's 5th year) I gotta admit, Mr. Zach Galligan, and John Cusack were up for the running for a while before finally I settled on actor/artist Damon Martin.

It's no surprise here he won becoming the mascot since for years now I've been fascinated with the man. Damon had a brief acting career in the 1980's and early 90's appearing in such films as Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Ghoulies II, Kid, Amityville 1992 It's About Time, and Sky High, as well as appearing on such TV shows as Freddy's Nightmares and 21 Jump Street. Finally Damon quit acting in the early 90's after landing a record deal with his band Naked. Here he wrote two number 1 sit singles "Mann's Chinese, and Raining On The Sky." These songs were huge when the album was released in the early 90's, and even featured in an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The band sadly broke up in the late 90's, before Damon became a producer for several bands as well as independent films including the Night Of The Demons remake. Damon currently is a very popular mural artist which deals with animal rights, such as the movement for elephants and has his work all over the country including the LA Art District. Damon last year came out of retirement for a brief cameo in Pee Wee's Big Holiday, and continues making beautiful artwork as well as designing a smart car a few years ago!

I really don't know what it is about Damon. He's no Galligan, but I've been fascinated with his work, and adore his movies. (Ghoulies II, and Amityville 1992 are two huge favorites of mine.) In fact, I even have been working on a pretty awesome art series with Travis based off Damon's acting roles. So far we've gotten him from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Ghoulies II, Amityville 1992, Freddy's Nightmares, and Sky High (which is extremely hard to find!) Travis knocked all of these pieces out of the park, and with just a few more pieces left the series will be complete. That's when I knew he was the best artist to chose to create the Staystillreview's mascot. I decided to use Damon's look as Chip from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and pretty much style it after the poster from Mannequin. This hands down has been my favorite piece from Travis and he beyond knocked it out of the park. I'm sure I'll be contacting him in the future to continue making Damon this blog's mascot which basically will show the overall feel of Staystillreviews. This is about movies, the 80's, and summer fun. In fact I have a project dealing with our new mascot of Damon hopefully for this summer! A huge thank you to Travis for capturing Damon in this piece. Please check out his work and see what awesome pop icons and characters from films he's captured!
