Day 6 of 31 Tubular Terrifying Tapes!

Day 6 of 31 Tubular Terrifying Tapes!

Today's choice for 31 tubular terrifying tapes is 1988's Brain Damage. The second film by director Frank Henenlotter after his huge hit earlier that decade Basket Case. This film basically is a huge public service announcement of drugs, and how attractive it and addicting it all seems, when really it takes over your entire life and drains everything including yourself. This is a whacky, weird film which is visually stunning, with a wonderful little monster who feeds on brains by the name of Aylmer who was originally owned by a couple in a New York apartment. This little creature clings into the back of their necks, and begins to feed. The after effects are the ultimate high for the victim but in order to experience this wonderful sensation it comes at a high cost. They must deliver brains to him to eat. Sadly Aylmer makes his escape causing the couple without him for 24 hours to withdraw with deadly effects. It isn't long before Aylmer finds his new victim a young down on his young guy who experiences the high of Aylmer and finds his body is a ticking time bomb without him.

A great gritty late 80's film which speaks deeper than most horror films. With a crazy over the top storyline it slowly builds to it's explosive ending scene that in my eyes is one of the coolest light effects ever shown.

If a fan of the Basket Case movies, or Frankenhooker, you will LOVE this movie. My favorite thing about this VHS copy is this version of the artwork. A must for any horror fan!
