Top 10 movies for Stacy in 2014

Top 10 movies for Stacy in 2014
For many, as the new year approaches, thousands upon thousands of top lists for the best films of that year come popping out everywhere. My list is a little different. I don't just do films that came out in the present and passing year, but the ones I either first discovered/watched this year, saw in a few re-release, or seemed to watch more than ever. Here are my top ten movies that were very important to me in the year 2014.

1) Nightbreed
Is this really a surprise to anyone? I adore Nightbreed, dare I even say it's Clive Barker's greatest film. 2014 truly was a year to embrace the tribes of the moon with this long awaited re-release of the director's cut. I like a complete mad woman ordered the SE blu-ray was soon as I heard news of it. In fact I even got Peloquin tattooed on me in honor of this epic release. Now I might get shot for this, but as much as I enjoyed the director's cut, the original and the original ending will always be my favorite.

2) Amityville 1992 It's About Time
Sure, sure, sure joke all you want. Stacy does have shit taste in movies, and shit taste in sequels, but this year I couldn't get enough of my all time favorite sequel (after Waxwork II) Amityville 1992, or simply Amityville It's About Time is the 6th installment in the Amityville films, and I may say one of the better sequels from this series. I may very well be the only person who loves this film, but it's always a hoot to show friends it. In fact I'm even getting as many artists friends of mine to paint my favorite scene from this film. What can I say, it was 1992 in Stacy's head all during 2014!

3) X-Men Days Of Future Past
I might get shot saying this but super hero movies really aren't my thing. Sure I like the Batman movies, and sorta supported the Spiderman movies (due to Raimi) but I really, and I stress really loved the latest X-men movie. Sure the other films are somewhat enjoyable, but after catching First Class right around the time Days Of Future Past was about to come out, curiously got the best of me. I searched and searched and re-watched the films and decided to go into this sorta blind. I can't say enough how much I loved this movie. In fact it very well may be the best film to come out in 2014. I feel even if you aren't a fan of the past movies, or have even seen them you would love this movie no matter what kind of films you might like. This was the T2 of my generation. Also Fassbender...wooooo!

4) Ghoulies II
Another shit sequel I just adore! I outright screamed when I found out this film was getting the blu-ray treatment next spring. This is a huge guilty pleasure of mine and I love it. In fact I think it's a million times better than the original. Between the fun carnival setting, the dreamy Damon Martin (Amityville 1992), Ghoulies driving bumper cars, and a giant Ghoulie eating up little Ghoulies, this is a good time after you have a couple of beers in you!

5) Hellraiser/Hellbound Hellraiser II
Clive Barker was my spirit animal this year. I went back to all his works that he directed and wrote (on top of Scream Factory's epic re-release of Nightbreed, they also did my personal favorite Lord Of Illusions) I went back and watched the first three Hellraisers (because honey, let's be honest, the first three are the only ones that count) I have always looked at these two films as being one giant movie. + You get to see Oliver Parker as a moving man not once but twice! Sign me up!

6) Unearth & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary
Out of all the films on this list, this one means the most to me. After a chance meeting at HorrorHound in 2011 I met my friends John and Justin. They were two boys from my area that were shooting a doc on the making of my favorite Stephen King film after Christine. This being Pet Sematary. I love this movie so much I even got Chruch the cat tattooed on me. This doc was something I had been following and supported for years. I made friends over the shooting of this, and learned so much about a classic that was so important in my life. (this is also one of my favorite books) In fact I was lucky enough to be invited up to Maine this past fall to see it screened after the original film and be able to see some of the filming locations. Couldn't thank John and Justin enough for such an epic time, and I was able to share it with my friends Jeanette (my good friend and old roommate, and Tara who is an amazing artist who did work for the doc herself.) Seeing the house in person brought nerd tears of joy to my eyes, and being able to see this doc on the big screen truly meant a lot to me. By far one of the greatest I've seen ever. On top of it, you see a brief clip of me drunk off my ass showing off my Pet Sematary shirt. West Sideeee...

7) Gone Girl
After a few friends my sister spoiled this book for me after I asked her what the ending was. Still, it caught my interest and after seeing who was set to direct, I was hooked. Gone Girl is a great thriller with an even greater twist. I won't say much to spoil it for anyone, but beyond a great thriller. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Props, total props.

8) Man's Best Friend
This was a gem that was discovered due to my love of VHS. I bought Man's Best Friend on a blind buy and couldn't have been happier. I have a huge love for cheesy 90's horror, this was a great title to choose from. Not exactly a film to show animal lovers, but this is the bastard cousin on Cujo. Not exactly the greatest of films, but with some brutal effects, and a dog rape (I'm not even kidding) It makes me wonder why this film isn't on DVD yet? Hummm...

9) The Hunger Games series
Me and my friend Mike have sorta an inside joke about Jennifer Lawrence (I know...EXACTLY what I gotta do.) So it took us what seemed like forever to finally see this movies. My sister couldn't stop raving about the books, and even tho I would have loved to have read them first, thanks to the magic of Netflix I was able to see the first two before seeing the third just today. Call it, The Running Man with younger adults. This is a pretty cool outlook of the future with some heart stopping tension and action. I really, and truly loved the first two movies, and somewhat enjoyed the first half of the final chapter. Can't wait to see how it all ends next year!

10) Annabelle
I love me some James Wan and Leigh Whannell. In fact just last month I went to see Saw since it's been 10 years since the original was released (can you believe that?!) I really loved Wan's follow up films, including The Conjuring. Now let's be honest, the best part of that movie was the creepy ass doll Annabelle. I was thrilled when I found out there was a spin off for this movie. Now I may be one of the few that really enjoyed this movie, but it reminded me of the old elegant gothic horror from the 1960's and 70's. In fact my tattoo artist even gave me an Annabelle poster which now graces a spot with my Dead Silence poster.

So there you have it. What's yours?
